Introduction to SpinFire for Office

SpinFire for Office (SFO) is a Plug-in to Microsoft Office which allows insertion of a SpinFire .3D file into a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, or PowerPoint presentation.

It also allows the insertion of Design Data information, such as Parts lists, Names, and Markups, as well as Volume, Surface Area, and Bounding Box information.

Once inserted, the representative Image can be activated so that the SpinFire application will run directly in the Office document.

The Office document can then be saved and sent to others who can open the document and activate the embedded .3D file.  The recipient must first have the SpinFire application installed, otherwise the embedded .3D files will not activate.  It can be either the Free Reader or a licensed seat of Professional.

SFO allows users to present Design Data in Four Ways

Interactive 3D Models Images

Users can embed 3D and 2D models in Office documents where knowledge workers can manipulate, dimension, cross-section, rotate, explode an assembly, and much more for exceptional communication and document comprehension.

Static Images

Users can insert bitmap or vector images of desired views from the CAD geometry into Office documents.

Design Data

Users can extract data from the CAD model, plus format and insert text-based design (meta) data, such as assembly and parts lists, bills of materials, mark-up notes, and dimensions into Office documents.

Computed Data

Users can insert part information (such as volume, surface and center of mass) into cells or a range of cells in Excel worksheets by computing it on demand. In computing data on the fly and not requiring the .3D file to contain the computed data as an existing markup, users are free to “extract” additional information from the file that was not originally provided to them as a markup.
